Independent Review Reveals U.S. Agency’s Role in Harming Communities in Liberia
The U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) recently released a revealing independent investigation reportdescribing its role a failed biomass project that harmed hundreds of Liberian farmers, charcoal producers and workers. The report, published alongside a short response from OPIC’s President & CEO, confirmed that all three groups of complainants suffered harm from the project and revealed gaps in OPIC’s ability to track development outcomes or identify and project vulnerable groups. Accountability Counsel is now working to ensure that OPIC takes responsibility for its failures by initiating a remedial process to address the harm it caused.
