Haiti: Human Rights Defender Milostène Castin in Danger

Milostène Castin has dedicated his life to the protection of smallholder Haitian farmers from exclusion, marginalization, and abuse. He was instrumental in bringing the concerns of hundreds of families displaced by the Caracol Industrial Park to international attention, supporting them to successfully demand remedy for the harm they experienced. His work has touched the lives of thousands more families across the North and Northeast of Haiti, as he relentlessly advocates for environmental and social justice. We are deeply proud and privileged to call him a partner and friend. We are devastated by the appalling attacks and threats he has faced as a result of this work. We join calls for his protection. Milostene Castin a consacré sa vie à la protection des petits exploitants haïtiens contre l’exclusion, la marginalisation, et l’abus. En soutenant cette demande à une juste réparation des préjudices subis, Castin a largement contribué aux efforts de centaines de familles déplacées par le Parc Industriel de Caracol à porter leurs préoccupations à l’attention de la communauté internationale. Ses efforts ont également influencé le cours de la vie des milliers d’autres familles dans le nord et le nord-est d’Haïti, où il prône implacablement la justice environnementale et sociale.
