Woefully Inadequate World Bank Response on Haiti, Safeguards Gap
Today we received the World Bank’s responseto a letter we submitted from over 90 civil society organizations demanding that the Bank take responsibility for its actions in Haiti. The Bank is assisting in the development of a risky mining sector in Haiti without applying any social or environmental safeguards. The Bank’s response fails to adequately respond to the concerns raised and refuses to take responsibility for its role in Haiti. It also fails to acknowledge or address the serious policy loophole that allowed the Bank to provide assistance in Haiti without any safeguards.
