
Annette Shumway
Annette is a dual JD/MALD student with Berkeley Law School and the Fletcher School at Tufts University. At Berkeley, she is the Supervising Editor of the Berkeley Journal of International Law and a member of the Human Rights Clinic. During her 1L year, she worked with Accountability Counsel through the International Human Rights Workshop (IHRW), creating functional reference documents on the Aarhus Convention and the UN Special Procedures. She will lead the IHRW next year.
Prior to law school, Annette taught English at an elementary school in Madrid, Spain and served in AmeriCorps with Catholic Charities Immigration Legal Services in Washington DC. She has always been passionate about international affairs and human rights, having worked with various global non-profits focused on women’s empowerment, refugee integration, and youth development. She graduated from Carleton College in 2022 where she majored in Political Science & International Relations with a minor in Middle East Studies.
