Alexandre (Ale) Andrade Sampaio

Alexandre (Ale) Andrade Sampaio joined Accountability Counsel as a Communities Associate in 2024.

He has extensive experience working on Human and Environmental Rights with communities that have been impacted by International Financial Institutions and private businesses around the globe.

Before joining Accountability Counsel, Ale was the Global Lead on the Right to Development and the coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean of the International Accountability Project. Prior to that, he worked as an attorney for the Interamerican Association for Environmental Defense and as a program coordinator at Article 19 in South America. He has lectured undergraduate and postgraduate courses on human and environmental rights at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and currently teaches online at Ativismo Contra o Tempo. He is also a member of the Board of the Projeto Aldeias, which focuses on changing the reality of youth impacted by the Belo Monte Dam in the Brazilian Amazon. He has also contributed to the work of the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) and the Special Procedures Unit of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations.

Ale graduated in law and social sciences at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Campinas in Brazil. He is a member of the Brazilian Bar. He holds an LLM (1st class honors) in International Human Rights Law from the Irish Centre for Human Rights of the University of Galway and an MSc (Chevening Scholar) in Human Rights from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LSE).
