Civil Society and Community Comments on the Final Report from the External Review of Environmental and Social Accountability at the IFC and MIGA

In 2019, the Board of Directors of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) commissioned an independent group of experts to perform a review of environmental and social accountability at the institutions and their independent accountability mechanism, the Compliance Advisor Ombudsman (CAO).

After receiving comments on the review from IFC, MIGA, and the CAO, the review team finalized its report in June 2020. With the understanding that the final report will be used to frame Board-level discussions on the role, effectiveness, and governance of the CAO, as well as institutional responses to grievance and findings of harm, civil society and community organizations demanded an opportunity to likewise comment on the review team’s findings and recommendations. The Board agreed, and published the report for public comment in August 2020.
