Katie Weiner is a Bay Area native and a recent graduate of Harvard University, where she majored in Social Studies with a focus in Conflict and Justice. Her award-winning senior thesis Between Myth and Memory explored the politics of history education in post-genocide Rwanda. At Harvard, Katie worked with the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative and the Harvard FXB Center for Health and Human Rights, researching the health consequences of rights violations by Islamic State and the pathways to justice for victims of these crimes. Through internships with the International Center for Transitional Justice, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, Aegis Trust, the Massachusetts Public Defenders Office, and the Global Justice Center, Katie has worked on a range of domestic and international human rights issues, honing a commitment to a borderless movement for environmental and social justice. Katie plans to attend law school, focusing on the nexus between climate change and human rights and ultimately working to defend the natural world and its inhabitants from degradation and injustice.
