Concerns Raised About the World Bank’s Approach to Mining in Haiti

Last week, five Haitian organizations, with assistance from Accountability Counsel and the NYU School of Law Global Justice Clinic, submitted a letter to the World Bank expressing serious concerns with the Bank’s involvement in the Haitian mining sector.

The World Bank is currently assisting Haiti in developing a new mining law. Contrary to the bank’s policies, the draft law lacks adequate social and environmental safeguards and has not been developed in consultation with affected communities.  Learn more about our work in Haiti here.
